I am a disabled person who has a quadripledgia. But I was very healthy even 6 years ago when I was enjoying my college life at the Graduate School of the Sung Kyun Kwan University in Korea. At that time, nothing kept me from convincing the vision that I would be a Ph.D. Doctor of Engineering, get a good job, make a lot a money, and marry a beautiful woman. I was self-conceit, ambitious, and believed in myself.
In 1988, I started a trip to Mt. Surak in Korea with my best friend for 3 days. When we were on the way of returning from the trip, my friend drove and I was on the side seat of him. At a moment when my friend lost a control of the steering wheel suddenly, our car was rushing forward to the opposite direction vehicle. After a while...... When I got my consciousness, I could not move any part of my body, even my finger. My neck was broken.
7 months hospital life was very boring. At the moment when I just had known that I could not walk again, I felt like falling down into the deep and dark hole. I lost my vision, my hope, my future, and everything. Lying on the hospital bed I was just thinking there was nothing I can do by myself. I would like to kill myself. However, I could not do it even by myself.
But one day I got an Eternal Life, which is a present from God. Then my life was being changed slightly. I started my new life with a joyful mind. I started to learn how to use a spoon to eat, how to use a pen to write with, and how to push the wheelchair with my weak arm. I re-started studying and pressed the kyboard button to write my thesis for the Ph.D degree.
In 1993, I got granted Ph.D as a completely disabled person for the first time in Korea. And also I got married with a beautiful lady after 1 year dating in the same year. At the summer of the year I came to the USA with my wife. Since 1994 I have been researching at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of University of Central Florida.
